The history
In the 18th and 19th centuries, wooden sailing ships were built in Kristiinankaupunki.
On their journeys back, the ships brought salt and spices from the Mediterranean.
The merchants stored them in lager houses made of timber and planks, and sold the imports to the townspeople and travelers.
So was the case in the Krepelin yard, too. Built between 1806 and 1860, the buildings, externally in their original shape, but internally fully renovated between 2002 and 2007, function today as hotel apartments for Hotel Krepelin.
Hotel Krepelin also has a sauna in one of the former lager houses, and welcomes guests as well as travelers to enjoy the real Finnish sauna experience at their own quiet and peace.
